ABOUT YOUR THERAPIST

Lauren is a Licensed Massage Therapist, a Certified Personal Trainer, and a Corrective Exercise Specialist. Lauren earned her Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, the highest credential in the field, in 2013. She graduated from the most comprehensive massage training program in the Mid-Atlantic region, Potomac Massage Training Institute (PMTI), in 2005 and has been practicing full time ever since. Lauren completed her personal training studies through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the most highly regarded training program in the country.

Lauren holds massage licenses in Washington, DC (license #MT0711) and Pennsylvania (license #MSG008576), and is a Certified Massage Therapist through Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from Elizabethtown College.

Through her work in a chiropractic and rehab office and with professional athletes and dancers, including DC United, the Washington Redskins and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Lauren gained expertise in offering rehabilitative massage treatments that focus on pain relief and recovery. Working in spas focusing on holistic treatments and pregnancy massage, and in local gyms with weekend warriors and athletes in training, helped develop her skill in relaxation and stress relieving treatments.

Lauren has served on the teaching faculty at PMTI, in courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, Functional Assessment, Clinical Applications and Integration, and Couples Massage. She has volunteered with Touch of Relief, offering therapeutic massage to survivors of trauma and those suffering from chronic illness and/or addiction issues. Through Touch of Relief, she had the opportunity to provide treatments to survivors of Hurricane Sandy in her hometown of Long Beach, NY.

While Lauren considers deep tissue massage her specialty, she also has extensive training in Swedish massage. Lauren has considerable experience in prenatal, postnatal and labor massage, in which she holds an additional certification through Kate Jordan's 'Bodywork for the Childbearing Year.' Lauren is also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor through the International Institute of Infant Massage.

Lauren is continually working toward mastering her craft, taking courses well above and beyond the basic requirements for licensure and certification. She has studied Orthopedic Massage Techniques for Cervical Pain, Neurostructural Integration, Neuromuscular Therapy for the Torso and Pelvis, Myofascial Release, Helping Clients Manage Migraines, Addressing Hip and Low Back Pain, Active Isolated Stretching, Assessment, Thai Massage, Thai Shiatsu, the Trager Approach, Reiki and Hot Stone Massage. Lauren began her studies in Neurokinetic Therapy in April 2014 and earned her Level 1 Certification in June 2015.

Lauren's intention as a massage therapist is to facilitate awareness, to promote balance, and to optimize health. In her work with new and growing families, Lauren aims to encourage wellness, bonding, awareness, and deeper levels of connection to support healthy, loving families from their inception.

Lauren embraces the mind-body-spirit philosophy; she believes it is necessary to care for each part of our selves to enjoy a full and enriched life. Through her background in Psychiatric Music Therapy working with children and adolescents in Residential Treatment Centers and with adults in Psychiatric Hospitals, she developed a profound understanding of our basic need as humans for compassion, support, nurturing, and touch. Lauren is committed to creating a space for each person to develop the awareness and balance it takes for growth to ensure the body's innate ability to heal itself may thrive.  Because we all deserve well being.
